A mineral is most often a homogeneous natural solid with an ordered atomic structure and a defined chemical composition. It can be described in the great majority of cases as a crystallized material characterized by its chemical composition and the arrangement of its atoms according to a precise periodicity and symmetry which are reflected in the crystalline system and the space group of mineral.
